Giving to SEE
From the time it was founded, The School of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade represents the institution of national importance. From then on, the School participated in development and improvement of the country and the society, taking part in national projects, counseling bodies and successful representation of peers all over the world. Also, it educated not only successful engineers, experts and scientists but also the engineering elite that ran the country.
The state didn't always give the required support to education and universities. Hence there were times when the country was like a mother, and times when it was like a stepmother to the School. Contrary to this, the society always supported us. Whether it's because of the society's awareness of the importance of this institution, or because the graduate students of the School are often in high places, it's hard to say. The donations are a part of this support.
The donations are a recent course of action. It started at the beginning of the new millennium after the School went through a very hard period. At the end of the previous century, due to war, sanctions and carelessness of the state, the School had many financial difficulties. As a result, graduate students in our country and from all over the world started an action in order to help their school. First donations, large shipping of new and used equipment that arrived to our School, were the result of personal engagement and self initiatory organization of our graduate students who live and work abroad. This equipment was incredibly important for, in the first moments after the events of the October 5th, when the country wasn't in the position to give the required financial means for university, it enabled the start of relatively normal schooling. Then followed the actions of our graduate students' lobbying with the companies they worked for to donate their products to the School. In this way, we received numerous large donations, equipment and software licenses, from national and international companies. Speaking of national companies, there were several large donations of material and labour. Apart from the donations of equipment, also very significant were the ones of books and magazines. It has already become a kind of tradition, that when our graduates come to visit the School they bring a book or two as a present. Something that should also be mentioned here is a big and exhausting action of our ex-students who gathered and sent all relevant magazines published in the time between 1990. and 2000. that the School library didn't have.
The donations, together with significantly improving the financial state of the School played another big part- they gathered our graduates of different generations and from all over the world, the forming of one alumni organization began, something that was not a tradition in these parts of the world. ETF Belgrade Alumni and Friends Association in other words, an association of graduate students and friends of our School is an organization that steadily grows and strengthens, and which is, along with dealing with donations, starting to deal with other things useful to the School of Electrical Engineering.
We will finish this story with a statement, which may be overly emotional but it's certainly correct: The School of Electrical Engineering is proud of its students and judging by their actions and demeanour one would say that they were also proud of their school.
